Three Stages of UbD

June 20, 2017

The number-one factor positively impacting student learning and achievement at the school level is a coherent, guaranteed, and viable curriculum delivered to all students. Jay Mctighe, Understanding by Design® (UbD) co-author, proposes a three-stage process, called backward design, to be used as framework for planning and preparing a guaranteed and viable curriculum. This backward design process challenges traditional thinking asking educators to begin with the end in mind. Explore the three-step approach to backward design and begin working with the end goal in mind.

Want to learn more about backward design? The Understanding by Design Institute, authored by Jay McTighe, introduces the three stages of backward design and explores how to implement backward design into practice.
