The number-one factor positively impacting student learning and achievement at the school level is a coherent, guaranteed, and viable curriculum delivered to all students. Jay Mctighe, Understanding by Design® (UbD) co-author, proposes a three-stage process, called backward design, to be used as framework for planning and preparing a guaranteed and viable curriculum. This backward design process challenges traditional thinking asking educators to begin with the end in mind. Explore the three-step approach to backward design and begin working with the end goal in mind.
